About the Play

Twelve years ago, Prospero, formerly the Duke of Milan, was usurped by his brother Antonio and cast adrift with his three year old daughter, Miranda. They now live on an enchanted island, where Prospero reigns over the native inhabitant, Caliban and the spirit Ariel.

Desiring revenge, Prospero uses his powerful magic to conjure a storm and shipwreck his enemies, changing all their lives forever.

This site-specific, promenade, family-friendly, adaptation of The Tempest will be a riot of colour, music, sound, puppets & magic, celebrating 150 years of the World’s Oldest Aquarium!

We are looking for a company of 12 actors who are able to put across a song. The audition will be workshop based. Please come prepared with a song of your choice, 1-2 mins long (unaccompanied or with your own backing track) in the style of one of the characters you are reading for. All roles can be played by any gender. We intend to use a mixture of modern English & Shakespeare’s verse.

The audition will start at 2pm for singing, followed by an acting workshop for which we ask you to be familiar with the storyline.   Anyone auditioning for Ariel, Caliban or Spirits, you will be asked to stay on for a puppeteering workshop.

You do not have to be a member of the company to audition, but if you are cast you must join.
