“Oh, if we can just quiet the world for a moment. And listen within. There’s a voice guiding you. I promise it’s there. And until you can hear it, I’ll be it for you.”
The men are all fighting, again. An endless war. From nowhere, an unexpected leader emerges. Young, poor and about to spark a revolution. This is Joan. Rebelling against the world’s expectations, questioning the gender binary, Joan finds their power within, and their belief spreads like fire.
I, Joan is a powerful and joyous play originally written for the Globe, which tells Joan of Arc’s story anew. With open hearts and raised voices, dance, and cheer with us as we rediscover Joan’s story. It’s alive, queer, and full of hope.
Warning: This production contains strong language and swearing throughout, references to sexual abuse, misgendering, and depictions of war and violence.
If you are interested in working backstage, please contact me.
Joan’s Army and the Soldiers form the ensemble and are used throughout the piece to create the battle and war scenes. Some simple movement is involved but nothing to be worried about.
The cast will double as the men who put Joan on trial. All doctors, masters, and bishops. You play one of the following: CAUCHON, DELAFONTAINE, GRIS, TOURAINE, MANCHON, LOYSELEUR, COURCELLES, BEAUPERE and CLERK.
AFAB stands for Assigned Female at Birth.
BLT actively encourages auditionees from ethnic minority communities and any of the below parts could be played by any race.
You do not have to be a member of the company to audition, but if you are cast you must join.
