Children’s author E Nesbit, bored of her husband’s Christmas party, retreats to her attic writing room with her faithful housekeeper and a handsome party guest. As the night draws on Edith reads some of her work, not from her cherished children’s stories but her early terrifying horror tales. As the stories unfold it becomes clear that the darkness is not only in the writing.
